A Little Bit About Me, My Family, & My Pets

I cannot recall a time in my life that I haven’t had at least one pet, and for most of my life I’ve had at least two ~ be it a cat, dog, hamster, frog, box turtle, bunny, guinua pig. My life would not be complete without animals to love and care for. And before I had my two daughters, my dogs, Buffy and Dotty, were my children.

I’ve always heard it said that animals can tell if you’re a “animal person.” I believe that to be true. All my life animals have warmed up to as if I was Dr. Doolittle and I could talk to the animals.  Pet parents tell me all the time that their pets warm up to me unlike anyone else. I take that as a compliment and am honored that pets feel safe with me.

Because of my love of animals, I was convinced that I was meant to be a vet. I thought that being a vet had to be the best job in the world! That is, until I learned that vets didn’t just play with animals all day ~ they often cared for sick and hurt animals. At the time, that was too difficult to fathom, so I realized that I wasn’t tough enough for the job.

So while I didn’t become a vet (or a zoo curator or any of the other animal-related jobs that seemed really, really cool as a kid) I have had a lifetime of pets and they continue to be a huge part of my life (and now of my kids’ lives as well). Because we have always had animals in our home, I’ve managed to pass down a sincere love and respect for animals to my own children.

For the past five years, we have shared our lives and home with two rescued cats (from a shelter that uthenizes), Bingo and Chloe.  They are a constant source of fun, love and companionship for me and my daughters. They are an important part of our family.
